If I had a penny for every time I’ve said that, I wouldn’t be writing this article. I’d be lounging on a yacht somewhere in the Caribbean. I’ve moved countries ten times, and with each move I’ve perfected the art of small talk, and so much more.

My expat life has taken me from the sanctuary of the Swiss Alps, to deserted Angolan beaches and magnificent Chilean vineyards. Over the years I’ve learnt everything from how to jump-start a car with a beer can, to how to meditate – and how to be ruthless about making friends.
